The Hunger Institute

The Hunger Institute is dedicated to the dissemination of information, promotion of education, and research regarding the global issue of hunger.  We seek to improve public policies to eradicate hunger and under-nutrition around the world.  We address the root causes of hunger and poverty by promoting effective and innovative community-based solutions that create self-reliance, economic justice and food security. We seek to be hopeful, earnest, accurate and non-partisan to examine hunger related laws, regulations and legislation throughout the United States and the World!

Opportunity

We must work proactively to effect policy changes and address the issue of hunger. This needs to be the first priority in improving the quality of life. To better coordinate efforts the Hunger Institute invites individuals, scholars, organizations, stakeholders, and policymakers to take time to offer their personal insights or submit ideas on strategy, in writing and on video, to address this critical issues of Hunger and Poverty so that every man, woman and child can enjoy a better life. Hundreds of Tennesseans are finding success reaching health goals with Get Fit Tennessee’s online tools at

www.getfittn.com. Across the state, people have been using the Fitness Tracker tool since its launch earlier this year to keep track of their daily exercise and challenge friends, colleagues or classmates to healthy competitions. Now, users will be able to use newly added nutrition tools to eat healthier, stay on track with meals, and challenge friends to healthy weight loss competitions. The new Health and Fitness Tracker features several nutrition tracking tools, including a daily online food journal and a calorie calculator that uses the United States Department of Agriculture’s database of more than 7,500 foods and beverages. The Fitness Tracker tools are all free and available to anyone in the state. Some users have logged on to “Get Fit” with Tennessee from several states across the nation, and some from as far away as England.
